ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born in 1950, Helen Grinnell King grew up in Gloucester, Massachusetts, a well known art and fishing community. There, she learned to ride a horse before she learned to walk. By the age of three, she was competing in horse shows and continued to do so throughout most of her life, showing in hunters, jumpers and dressage.
Helen spent her early twenties raising and showing dogs. She produced numerous champions as well as multiple Group and  Best in Show winners.
In 1974 she moved to California and then on to the Northwest in 1979. For the last 34 years, she and her husband Mel have stayed busy raising kids and horses and running their equine products manufacturing business. In 1995 Mel and Helen sold their business to allow more time for traveling, hiking, SCUBA diving and other interests.
When not on the road, Helen devotes most of her time to sculpting. Her love of all creatures and a lifetime of studying their form and spirit is captured in her art. Whether whimsical or serious, Helen allows each piece to develop its own unique personality.
In her spare time, Helen helps her interior design clients
(a business she began in 1991) beautify their homes. She also travels North America as an Inspector for the American Connemara Pony Society but her real love is dog agility!
